Description
A pressure reducing valve lowers the water pressure to a steady, safe level downstream, whatever the pressure upstream. In high-rise buildings, the pumps must push water to the top floor, which leaves far too much pressure on the lower floors.
Reducing valves on those floors protect sprinklers, hoses and landing valves, and keep hose streams safe for the people using them.
Key features
- Automatic pressure control
- Inlet up to 25 bar, outlet adjustable from 1.5 to 12 bar
- Ductile iron, brass or stainless steel body
- Stainless steel internals, EPDM or NBR diaphragm
- UL / FM listed models available
Applications
- High-rise fire risers
- Sprinkler zones on lower floors
- Water supply pressure control
Before you order
Send us the size (DN or inches), the pressure rating, the end connection (flanged, threaded or grooved) and the quantity, from your drawing or equipment schedule. Say if it must be UL / FM listed.
Tell us the inlet pressure and the outlet pressure you need, and which floors it serves.
Installation and care
Fit the valve with a Y-strainer before it and gauges on both sides, so its setting can be checked. Test it under flow during maintenance, because a valve can stick if it never operates.
Common questions
Why do tall buildings need pressure reducing valves?
The pumps push water to the top floor, which leaves too much pressure on the lower floors for hoses and sprinklers to be used safely.
Can the outlet pressure be adjusted?
Yes, within its range, from about 1.5 to 12 bar.
Why fit a strainer before it?
Dirt can block its small passages and stop it working.
