Description
A CO₂ extinguisher puts out fires by displacing the oxygen around them. Carbon dioxide does not conduct electricity and leaves no residue, which makes it the right extinguisher beside electrical panels, server rooms, generators and office equipment.
It is also effective on small flammable liquid fires (Class B). It is not suitable for paper, wood or fabric fires, where an ABC powder or foam extinguisher should be used instead.
Key features
- Class B and electrical fires
- Clean agent, no residue
- High-pressure steel cylinder with discharge horn
- 2, 3 and 5 kg sizes
Applications
- Electrical panels and switch rooms
- Server rooms and offices
- Generator rooms
- Laboratories
Choosing the size
The 2 kg size is light enough for anyone to carry and suits a small electrical room or an office with a few computers. The 5 kg size lasts longer and suits larger switch rooms, generator rooms and server rooms. If you are not sure, tell us the room and what is in it, and we suggest a size and a number.
How to use it safely
Pull the pin, aim the horn at the base of the fire, squeeze the handle and sweep from side to side. Hold it only by the handle, because the horn gets very cold. Do not use it in a small closed room with people inside, because CO2 lowers the oxygen in the air. Leave the room once the fire is out, and air it before going back in.
Installation and care
Mount it on a wall bracket near the door of the room it protects, so people can grab it on the way in. A CO2 extinguisher has no pressure gauge, so it is checked by weighing it. Have it serviced regularly and refilled after any use. Our team can install, service and refill CO2 extinguishers on request.
Common questions
Can a CO2 extinguisher be used on a computer or panel fire?
Yes. CO2 does not conduct electricity and leaves no residue, so it is the usual choice for electrical panels, server rooms and office equipment.
Why is CO2 not recommended for paper or wood fires?
CO2 puts the flames out, but it does not cool burning paper or wood much, so the fire can start again after the gas clears. Use an ABC powder or foam extinguisher there.
How do I know if my CO2 extinguisher is still full?
It has no gauge. It is checked by weighing it against the weight on its label during a service. If it has been used at all, have it refilled.
