Description
A fire hook pulls down and spreads out burning material, such as thatch, stacked goods or light partitions, so it can be put out. A fire beater smothers small ground and grass fires by beating out the flames.
They are simple tools that need no power or refilling, and are commonly kept on fire points in factories, depots, farms and construction sites.

Using the tools
Use the fire hook to pull down burning thatch, light partitions, fabric or stacked material, and to spread it out on the ground where it can be put out with water or sand. Use the beater to smother small grass, ground or rubbish fires by pressing and beating out the flames from the edge inwards. Always work from the side the wind is coming from, so the fire moves away from you.
Storage and care
Keep the hook and beater together at the fire point, hung on a stand or a wall so they are easy to find. Check the handles for cracks and the beater head for wear, and keep them dry. They need no refilling or power.
