Choosing the drum
Choose the capacity by the fire point it serves and how often it can be refilled. Galvanised steel is strong and suits industrial yards. UV-resistant plastic does not rust and is lighter to move. For a drum that stands outdoors, choose one with a lid to keep out rain, leaves and mosquitoes.
Setting up and care
Stand the drum on level ground at the fire point, next to the buckets, with the tap easy to reach. Keep it full and covered. Check it regularly for leaks, rust and dirty water, and clean and refill it when needed.
