Description
A heat detector raises the fire alarm when the temperature at the ceiling passes a fixed point or rises unusually fast. It is used where smoke, steam or dust would set off a smoke detector: kitchens, boiler and generator rooms, car parks and dusty production areas.
Rate-of-rise detectors respond early to a fast-growing fire; fixed temperature detectors suit places where the temperature changes quickly in normal use.
Key features
- Fixed temperature or rate-of-rise
- 57, 68, 79 or 93 °C ratings
- 24 V DC, low current
- Conventional and addressable versions
- UL / FM / LPCB / EN 54 approved models
Applications
- Kitchens and canteens
- Generator and boiler rooms
- Car parks
- Dusty production areas
Before you order
Tell us the fire alarm panel's brand and model, so the detector matches it, and whether the system is conventional or addressable. Then choose the type: rate-of-rise for most rooms where smoke detectors would false alarm, and fixed temperature for places such as kitchens and boiler rooms, where the temperature can jump quickly in normal use. The temperature rating is chosen a little above the highest normal temperature in the room. Our guide Fire Alarm System: Addressable or Conventional? explains the two systems.
Installation and care
Mount the detector on the ceiling, away from air conditioner outlets and fans that blow heat away from it, and follow the spacing in the system design. Test each detector during routine maintenance with a heat tester, and keep it free of paint and dust. Our team can install and test detectors on request.
Common questions
Heat detector or smoke detector?
A smoke detector warns earlier in most rooms. A heat detector is used where smoke, steam or dust are normal, because it will not false alarm there.
What does rate-of-rise mean?
A rate-of-rise detector alarms when the temperature climbs unusually fast, which catches a growing fire early. Most also alarm at a fixed temperature.
Will it work with my panel?
It must match the panel's brand and protocol. Send us the panel model and we confirm the right detector.
Specifications vary by model and manufacturer. We confirm the exact model, rating, price and delivery charge in your written quotation.
