Description
A lock cutter lets a fire team or security guard open a locked gate, exit or cabinet quickly in an emergency, when there is no time to find a key. Locked exits are a common factor in factory fire deaths, and a cutter at the fire point is a simple safeguard.
The hardened steel jaws cut padlocks, chains, bolts and wire, and the long handles give the leverage to do it by hand.
Key features
- Hardened steel jaws
- Cuts locks, chains, bolts and wire
- 18, 24 and 36 inch handles
- Non-slip grips
- Manual, no power needed
Applications
- Factory fire points
- Security posts
- Emergency response kits
Choosing the size
Longer handles give more leverage and cut thicker locks and chains. An 18 inch cutter is easy to carry and suits security posts. A 24 or 36 inch cutter suits the fire point, where heavy padlocks and chains may need cutting. Tell us what you expect to cut, and we suggest a size.
Storage and care
Keep the cutter at the fire point and the security post, in a known place that is easy to reach. Keep the jaws clean and lightly oiled, and check that the pivot moves freely. Better still, never lock exits while people are inside: the cutter is a backup, not a reason to lock them.
Common questions
What can a lock cutter cut?
Padlocks, chains, bolts and wire. The thickness it can cut depends on the size of the cutter.
Why does a factory need a lock cutter?
Locked gates and exits have trapped people in factory fires. A cutter at the fire point lets the team open a locked exit quickly when a key cannot be found.
Does it need power?
No. It is a manual tool and works by the leverage of its long handles.
