Description
A fire blanket smothers a small fire by cutting off its air. It is the safest way to put out a burning pan of oil, which water would make explode, and it can be wrapped around a person whose clothes are on fire.
The blanket is kept in a wall-mounted quick-release case: pull the tapes and it drops out ready to use.
Key features
- Fibreglass fabric, rated to 1300 °C
- 1 × 1 m and 1.2 × 1.8 m sizes
- Quick-release wall case
- No training needed
- To EN 1869
Applications
- Kitchens and canteens
- Laboratories and workshops
- Homes and hotels
How to use a fire blanket
Turn off the stove if you can do it safely. Pull the two tapes so the blanket drops out of the case. Hold it by the tapes, with your hands behind the blanket so they are protected. Lay it gently over the pan, away from you, so it covers the whole pan. Leave it in place until the pan has cooled down completely. Never lift it to look, and never throw water on burning oil.
If a person's clothes are on fire, wrap the blanket around them and lay them on the ground to smother the flames.
Where to put it
Mount the case on the wall near the kitchen exit, not right behind the stove, so you do not reach across the fire to get it. Hang one in each kitchen, canteen, laboratory and workshop where small fires can start.
Common questions
Which size fire blanket do I need?
The 1 × 1 m size covers a pan or a small fire in a home kitchen. The larger 1.2 × 1.8 m size suits canteens and labs, and is large enough to wrap around a person.
Can a fire blanket be used again?
Some can, after careful inspection. A blanket that is damaged or was used on a fire should normally be replaced. Ask us when you order.
Why not use water on a pan of oil?
Water sinks into the hot oil, boils instantly and throws burning oil into the air. A fire blanket cuts off the air instead, which is safe.
