Description
A foam extinguisher uses aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) to put out fires in solid materials (Class A) and flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel and paint (Class B). The foam spreads a film over the liquid that smothers the fire and stops it re-igniting.
It is the right choice for fuel stores, garages, generator rooms and chemical stores. It should not be used on live electrical equipment.
Key features
- Class A and B fires
- AFFF foam, prevents re-ignition
- Stored pressure with gauge
- 6, 9 and 20 L sizes
Applications
- Fuel and chemical stores
- Garages and workshops
- Generator rooms
- Factories and warehouses
Choosing the size
The 6 and 9 litre sizes are common in workshops, garages and generator rooms. The 20 litre size gives more foam for larger fuel and chemical stores. Tell us what is stored, how much, and the size of the area, and we suggest the size and number.
How to use it
For a burning liquid, do not aim straight into it, because that can splash the fuel. Aim at a wall or the edge of the container so the foam flows gently over the surface and covers it. For burning solids, aim at the base of the fire. Keep the foam layer in place once the fire is out.
Installation and care
Mount it near the fuel or chemical store, outside the risk area, so people can reach it safely. Check the gauge every month and have it serviced regularly. Refill it after any use. Our team can install, service and refill foam extinguishers on request.
Common questions
Can I use a foam extinguisher on an electrical fire?
No, not on live electrical equipment unless the label clearly says it is safe for that. Use a CO2 or ABC powder extinguisher on electrical fires.
Foam or ABC powder for a fuel store?
Both work on fuel fires. Foam also seals the surface and helps stop the fire starting again, which is why it is often chosen for fuel and chemical stores.
Can foam be used on a cooking oil fire?
Use a fire blanket or a kitchen-rated extinguisher for cooking oil. A standard foam extinguisher is made for fuels such as petrol and diesel.
