Description
A Y-strainer catches sand, rust and other debris in a pipeline before it reaches pumps, control valves, meters and sprinkler heads. The screen sits in the angled leg of the Y, where it can be removed and cleaned without taking the strainer out of the line.
On fire systems, strainers are usually fitted ahead of pressure reducing valves, deluge valves and foam equipment, whose small passages are easily blocked.

Installation and care
Fit the strainer before the valve or meter it protects, with the screen leg pointing down or as the maker shows. Clean the screen during maintenance and after any work on the pipework.
