Description
A beam detector sends an infrared beam across a space to a receiver or reflector. Smoke rising into the beam weakens it, and the detector raises the alarm. One detector can protect an area that would otherwise need many point detectors on a high ceiling.
Because the units mount on the walls rather than the ceiling, they are far easier to install and maintain in warehouses, factory halls, atriums and auditoriums.

A beam detector works best across open spaces without obstructions in the beam's path. Choose between a reflector type (one unit and a reflector) and a transmitter-receiver pair.
Installation and care
Mount the units on solid walls or steel that do not move or flex, because a beam that shifts out of line gives faults. Align it with the laser or optical aid, and keep the path clear of stacked goods, cranes and signs. Clean the lenses during routine maintenance and test the detector with the maker's test filter.
